About Photographer John Cruz

Me playing my Bari sax back in the old country.

I first got into photography in 2007 when I was 21, working primarily with small digital point and shoots. A few years later I moved on to a Nikon D5000 SLR, which is still my primary camera for digital photography. Most of the shots on this website were done with that camera, but I’ve started doing more film stuff as of late. Including my own black and white development. I now work in digital, 35mm, medium format and instant polaroid photography.

While originally from Detroit, I now reside in Montreal. The photos on this website reflect my travels as well as the places I’ve explored, my way of sharing with the outside world. Since I am a city planner and not a photographer by trade, I enjoy the luxury of shooting for the pleasure of it. Although who knows where the future will change me.

When I’m not shooting, I’m either working as an urban planner, playing music, enjoying a cigar, or writing for my other website The Urbanist Dispatch.

You can catch MisplacedFocus on Tumblr, Facebook, and Instagram as well as on the web. Instagram and Tumblr stuff is pretty much the same, and it’s candid shots from my Galaxy S3 with some of my main photography mixed in here and there.
